I would like to be contacted by any other homeowners who are experiencing pressure problems with their water, or any other plumbing problems. Woodside homes is one of the builders involved with the “Kitec” fittings class action lawsuit. I have been experiencing serious problems with my plumbing and have been asked by legal council to consult my neighbors regarding similar problems.

Thanks!

In an effort to better understand and experience what our local police department do every day, I was allowed to ride along with officer Jason Swanbeck. First and foremost, let me express that I was extremely impressed at the efficiency and how organized our Northwest Command officers do their job.

In every instance I witnessed, your local police did an outstanding job while maintaining integrity, respect and service. I learned quite a bit from my 10-hour shift with officer Swanbeck and have a much higher level of appreciation and respect for our police department now. These officers are faced with every imaginable situation at any given moment, and they way they prioritize their calls really impressed me.

Here is the recap of my day with officer Swanbeck, an outstanding example of LVMPD.

3:30pm Checked out patrol car, weapons and safety/first aid supplies.

3:37pm Assigned to duty with call sign 3V54.

3:45pm We exited the police department and hit the road.

3:50pm Assigned our first call, 417 - family disturbance.

4:00pm Arrived at scene. Spoke with PR, the other party had left. Advised PR options and departed.

4:30pm Arrive at 439 call, assist citizen. Cannot find or make contact at address.

4:35pm Assigned a 404 call, unknown trouble and shortly thereafter canceled.

4:40pm Car stop, operating without headlights. Citation issued for operating vehicle without license,

no proof of insurance. Officer allowed subject to call friend to pick up car to prevent it from being towed.

5:27pm Assigned to 413, person with a gun. Spent considerable amount of time with people involved,

was assisted and then transferred to gang unit.

7:00pm Departed above call to assist on a 417, family disturbance. Other party had left.

7:36pm Assigned to 414A, petit larceny at Target store. Suspect had altercation with security guard and

fled the scene. Took reports and evidence.

9:00pm Assigned to 416B, other disturbance. Arrived at party with 20+ subjects playing loud music.

Occupants of apartment warned to turn down music or citations will be issued on a callback.

9:11pm Assigned to 416B, other disturbance. Occupant’s cooperative.

9:23pm Assigned to 425B, suspicious vehicle. Could not locate.

9:40pm Assigned to 409, drunk driver last seen departing party at Angel Park golf course, northbound

on Rampart. Could not locate.

9:45pm Car stop, subject had a warrant. Confirmed all info and taken into custody.

10:27pm Arrested subject was transported to city jail.

11:07pm Car stop, license plate not readable. Subject was issued a warning.

11:42pm Car stop, expired registration. Citation issued.

11:53pm Assisted with car stop. Subject at first would not pull over, then finally  stopped. Subject was

obviously under the influence of something, paramedics called to assist. Failed all sobriety tests, was

transported to jail.

In closing, I would like to thank the LVMPD the opportunity to witness first hand the day in the life of one of our officers. I truly was impressed and we all should be proud of the Northwest Command that serves our area. They truly do an outstanding job.

Minutes from Homeowners meeting at Crossings Park

  • We had a good turnout for the meeting last night, thank you all for coming. There were a lot of good ideas shared and we had new interest in the neighborhood watch program. We also had some new volunteers for block captions. For all of you that could not make the meeting that want either more information on the neighborhood watch program or want to get involved more, please contact Kathryn Ojeda, LVMPD crime prevention specialist at (702) 229-7377 or by email at k2482o@lvmpd.com
  • Kathryn was present at the meeting last night and gave us all handouts and additional information on gated communities, home security checklists, preventing auto burglary and home invasions. Please check LVMPD’s website for more useful information at http://www.lvmpd.com/. Kathryn also gave us a great “watchdog” tool to use at that site called “Crime View Community”. This link, http://www.lvmpd.com/crimeviewcommunity/ will let you access crimes reported within a 1-mile radius of any address you type in up to the last 60 days. By trying this program I realize that it is important to report crimes to the police, otherwise they are not going to have an accurate portrait of what areas need patrolling.
  • There was a lot of talk about gating our community. According to Kathryn, gated communities really don’t make much of a difference, especially in our situation will access from the park and the huge access way at the corner of Snow Mountain and Falls Church. There would also be a lot of costs (see above) and there really is a slim chance that we could get every homeowner in Discovery Hills to agree to a gate, forming a sub-association and paying a new monthly fee.
  • There were a lot of people supporting the hiring of an armed security patrol for our neighborhood. This would be very beneficial to the teenager problems on Snow Mountain by the park.
  • There was some great idea’s presented like installing “no-parking” signs and painting the curb red along snow mountain at the park, installing more stop signs and speed bumps. All of these issues would have to be requested and approved by the city of Las Vegas, who owns Snow Mountain.
  • There was a suggestion of installing key locks on the gates at the park, but that would be an uphill fight as the park is Summerlin property and the Snow Mountain is city property. Besides, I don’t think it would take long for the combination to get out with all of the use at the soccer park.
  • We got a lot of people talking, and that is the start. Please use this website often and let me know what you support. This is a 24-hour way for all of us to stay informed and look after our neighborhood.
  • As far as our next meeting, All of you that wanted to volunteer for block captains, please get that information to Kathryn Ojeda and myself so we can put together a roster and start organizing our watch program and schedule regular meetings.

I addressed the SNCA Board of Directors this evening about making Discovery Hills a gated community. Their position on this is that if the City of Las Vegas will issue a permit and allow it, SNCA has no objections to it. They did bring up several issues regarding converting Discovery Hills in to a gated community.

  1. The City of Las Vegas will have to approve it.
  2. All of the owners (100%) would have to agree to it.
  3. We (Discovery Hills) would have to form our own sub-association.
  4. Our streets and streetlights would become private and we, as the sub- association would be responsible for their maintenance and all costs associated with it.
  5. We would have to satisfy any traffic concerns the City might have.

I welcome comments on this topic as I have received a lot of email regarding it. Should we as a community want to pursue this, it will take a lot of effort, coordination and cooperation of all of the residents of Discovery Hills. The cost would also have to be split between the owners of Discovery Hills and a sub-association formed.
